| Project Description: |
|
The Humane Society
of Hall County wanted a Windows based database application
that could be used to keep track of information pertaining
to their business processes. This application would be used
to keep track of accounting, payroll, animal inventory (adoptions,
euthanasia, etc.), store receipts, human resource, customer
information and membership information. In order to accomplish
this, the HSHC approached Clayton College and State University's
class for Software Testing and Quality Assurance (TQA). Two
teams of 5 people were assigned to this project. Each team
took a portion of the project, and we integrated the entire
project at various milestones. |

| My Roles: |
|
Working on a team
of only 5 people, I had to take on several important roles
in order to make this project work. My primary role was Project
Manager. I also took on the roles of lead database
developer, and co-developer for application development.

| What we did: |
|
We modeled the
Humane Society's current business processes into a relational
database schema. We used a combination of their existing
computer-based system and all of their paper-based business
processes (i.e. hand-written customer receipts, animal inventory
forms, employee time cards, etc.). Using SQL Server 2000,
we then created a database using the working relational
model.
Once the database was completed and fully normalized, we
used Visual Basic 6 to create a console application that
could be installed on each machine on the Humane Society's
Network. This console application interacts with the database
to give the Humane Society the ability to add, modify and
delete records, run reports, and much more. |
